Asturian cachopo in a cider house

Updated: October 2026

Where should you eat in Llanes? For fish and seafood, go to the harbour: El Bálamu sits above the fish market and El Puerto looks out over the boats. For cachopo and cider, head to the cider houses in the old town, such as La Amistad or El Almacén. For a special occasion, drive out to Pancar, on the edge of town, home to El Retiro, the only Michelin-starred restaurant in the Llanes area.

At the Bufones de Pría holiday apartments, about 20 km west of Llanes, this is the list we give our guests when they ask where to eat. We have checked that every place is still open in 2026 and taken out the ones that have closed. For each one you'll find the address, what to order and a rough idea of price. Opening hours change a lot between high and low season, so ring ahead, especially from October to April.

Seafood and fish at Llanes harbour

El Bálamu (seafood tavern)

Address: Puerto Pesquero s/n, Lonja building, Llanes · +34 985 413 606

It sits on the first floor of the fish market, and from the tables you can watch the boats come in. It's our first recommendation for fish in Llanes, and we're not alone: it's listed in both the Michelin Guide and the Repsol Guide for 2026. There's no fixed fish menu. Whatever the boats landed that day is grilled simply. Ask about the rock fish (scorpionfish, red mullet) and the seafood of the day. It's closed on Wednesdays and only does dinner Thursday to Saturday. Book, and be on time: they only hold a table for ten minutes.

Sidrería El Puerto

Address: C/ Marqués de Canillejas, 1 (opposite the marina), Llanes · +34 684 610 679

A reliable spot for eating by the marina without spending much. It's half cider house, half seafood restaurant: scallops (zamburiñas), fried squid, fish soup, fabada and cachopo (including a cured-beef version). Most of the menu can be made gluten-free, which many reviewers mention. Open daily for lunch and dinner, and packed in summer: book a few days ahead if you want a table outside.

Cider houses and cachopo in the old town

Bar Sidrería La Amistad

Address: C/ Cueto Bajo, 8, Llanes · +34 985 400 893

If you only eat one cachopo in Llanes, have it here. Cachopo is two veal fillets stuffed with ham and cheese, breaded and fried. Theirs is huge, oozing cheese, and easily feeds two (three with a starter). The fabada (Asturian bean and pork stew) comes as a good-value single portion, and the Cabrales blue-cheese croquettes and chorizo cooked in cider are on almost every table. It's a proper cider house, loud, with cider poured at the bar. Closed on Mondays. In summer there's a queue, so arrive early or ring ahead.

Sidrería El Almacén

Address: C/ Posada Herrera, 17, Llanes · +34 985 403 007

It opened in 1997 in what were the stables of the Posada Herrera house, now the town's cultural centre. There's a cider bar, an upstairs dining room, a courtyard and a terrace. The menu is traditional Asturian: fabada, cachopo, wild mushroom dishes, Cabrales croquettes and tortos (fried corn flatbreads with toppings) to share. Portions are generous, and there are high chairs and options for food intolerances, so it works well with children. Open 12:00–15:30 and 19:00–23:30, closed on Tuesdays.

Sidrería La Casona

Address: C/ Mayor, 20, Llanes · +34 985 400 958

On the main street of the old town, among the stone manor houses. It's a good place to try Llanes's spoon dishes: fabada and, above all, verdinas (small green beans) with seafood. They also do seasonal shellfish (goose barnacles, sea urchins, clams, razor clams) and cachopo. Their website says they open Thursday to Sunday; summer hours may differ, so check first.

Tapas and cheap eats

Sidrería El Bodegón

Address: C/ Mayor, 14, Llanes (next to the Magdalena chapel) · +34 985 400 185

One of Llanes's long-standing cider bars, with a terrace on Plaza de la Magdalena that's full all summer. Come for cider and sharing plates: monkfish fritters (buñuelos de pixín), fried squid, chorizo in cider, sardines. €10–20 a head gets you a good meal. It's better for a pre-lunch drink or a relaxed dinner of plates than for a long lunch. If it's full, La Amistad and El Almacén also do half portions.

Restaurants with sea views

Los Piratas del Sablón

Address: C/ La Moría, 11, Llanes (Sablón beach) · +34 985 400 169

A seafood restaurant with its own shellfish tanks and a terrace over Sablón beach, five minutes' walk from the centre. The view is the main draw. People come for the seafood platters, lobster rice, goose barnacles or spider crab. Our advice: choose your shellfish from the tanks and ask the price by weight before ordering. Closed in January and February.

Restaurante Mirador de Toró

Address: Avda. de Toró, 12, Llanes · +34 985 400 882

It faces Toró beach, the one with the limestone rocks, and has a covered terrace and dining rooms with big windows. It started as a beach bar in the 1950s and is now a large restaurant (around 200 covers) serving Asturian fish and seafood, stews and home-made puddings. A good choice for groups and families. In winter it's closed on Mondays and takes its holiday in January. In summer, book if you want a window table.

Kaype (Barro beach)

Address: Playa de Barro, Barro (Llanes) · +34 985 400 900

The restaurant of the Kaype-Quintamar hotel, right on Barro beach, between Llanes and Nueva. It keeps its own live shellfish tanks, so the seafood goes straight from the water to the kitchen. Its best-known dishes are lobster rice and squid in its own ink. There's also a cider bar with a garden terrace and a café with a view for afternoon coffee. It's on the way into Llanes from us, so it's an easy stop.

Fine dining: Michelin and Repsol in the Llanes area

El Retiro (1 Michelin star)

Address: Carretera de Pancar, Pancar (Llanes) · +34 985 400 240

The only Michelin star in the Llanes area in the 2026 guide, and it also holds 2 Repsol Suns. Chef Ricardo González Sotres has turned his grandparents' old village eating house in Pancar, a couple of kilometres from the centre, into a modern Asturian restaurant. You eat a tasting menu (San Patricio), with combinations such as pig's snout with carabinero prawn and curry. Lunch only, closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Book well ahead.

Le Bistró (Bib Gourmand)

Address: same house as El Retiro, Pancar · +34 985 400 240

El Retiro's relaxed sibling, on the porch of the same house. Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 guide, the award for places offering great value for money. It does classic Asturian food very well: fabada, squid in ink, tripe, kid goat. The dish with a story is pitu de caleya (free-range chicken) braised with mole, a nod to the Asturians who emigrated to Mexico and came home. Lunch Tuesday to Sunday.

Married Cocina (1 Repsol Sun)

Address: Hotel Hontoria, Barrio Pamplona, 69, Hontoria (Llanes) · +34 985 435 478

César F. Casado opened Married in Oviedo in 2013 and has cooked at the Hotel Hontoria, between Llanes and Nueva, since 2020. It holds 1 Repsol Sun. His cooking is creative but built on slow-cooked stews, with seasonal Asturian produce and French technique. It works on tasting menus (we've seen €65 and €90, but check when you book). Lunch only, Wednesday to Sunday. Booking is essential.

Casa Pilar (1 Repsol Sun)

Address: Barrio La Nogalera s/n, Nueva de Llanes · +34 985 410 177

In Nueva, a few minutes from our apartments. Pilar Granda and Toño González hold 1 Repsol Sun for straightforward seafood cooking: market fish grilled or baked (monkfish, sea bass, red bream when there is some), lobster salad and lobster rice. Budget €35–60 a head. There's a summer terrace and its own car park. Open daily for lunch and dinner, except Tuesday evenings outside summer.

Near the Bufones de Pría: Pría, Llames, Garaña and Nueva

If you're staying with us or coming to see the Bufones de Pría, you don't need to drive into Llanes to eat well. These are the places closest to hand:

Bar Restaurante La Puente (Garaña de Pría)

Address: Garaña de Pría, Llanes · +34 645 832 495

An old-fashioned village bar, 1 km from the blowholes, open since 2015. The dishes to go for are kid goat stew and lobster rice, which you need to order in advance (minimum two people, €70). Starters run from €4.50 to €22 and mains from €14 to €27. Closed on Thursdays. Ring to book, especially at weekends.

La Pumarada (Llames de Pría)

Address: C/ Llames, 13, Llames de Pría · +34 985 410 473

A cider house by the start of the path to the blowholes, with tables outside under apple trees. It's the obvious stop after the blowholes: cachopo (big, for sharing), croquettes, fabada, and anchovies with cheese and peppers. Open all year. They don't take bookings: you give your name and wait your turn, so in summer get there before 2 pm.

Restaurante Playa de Guadamía (Llames de Pría)

Address: C/ Llames, 3, Llames de Pría · +34 636 087 588

The closest restaurant to the blowholes, almost at the level of Guadamía beach. It serves the day's fish and seafood (clams, goose barnacles, hake) and fabada. The food gets excellent reviews. It mainly opens in season and was listed as temporarily closed in October 2026, so always ring before you go.

El Cuchareru (Nueva)

Address: C/ Nueva, 146, Nueva de Llanes · +34 639 810 225

A cider maker, deli and cider bar in the centre of Nueva. They make their own cider (about 8,500 litres a year) and use produce from their own garden. It's recognised with a Repsol "Solete". Order the tomato and bonito tuna salad, grilled octopus, ham croquettes, or anchovies with cheese and roasted peppers. Half portions are available and dishes cost €7–24. It's small, so booking is wise.

Sidrería Muros (Nueva)

Address: Barrio La Blanca s/n, Nueva de Llanes

A cider house with a wood-fired grill: T-bone steak, cachopo, fabes and cheap cider. Some tables are set inside giant cider barrels, which children love. Portions are big and prices are village prices. Hours vary by season, so ring first and book in summer.

Heading west? Ribadesella is about 10 km from Pría and has some excellent places to eat. We cover them in our Ribadesella restaurant guide.

Tips for eating out in Llanes

  • Book in July, August, Easter and bank holidays. Llanes fills up in summer. For the harbour restaurants and the guide-listed ones (El Bálamu, Casa Pilar, El Retiro, Married), book several days ahead. The cider houses in town mostly work on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Spanish meal times. Lunch is 1:30–3:30 pm and dinner 8:30 or 9 pm to 11 pm. Many kitchens close at 4 pm, and the fine-dining places on this list open for lunch only.
  • Out of season, check the closing day. From October to April many places close one or two weekdays, and some shut for a holiday in January or February.
  • How to drink cider. Natural Asturian cider is poured from above head height so it splashes into the glass and comes alive. You get a culín, a finger's worth, and drink it straight away in one go, before it goes flat. Leave a drop in the bottom to rinse the rim. Don't ask for a full glass: the waiter (or you) keeps pouring culines as you go.
  • Portions are big. One cachopo feeds two, and fabada as a starter is filling. Ask for half portions (medias raciones) where they offer them.
  • Combine lunch with the blowholes. The Bufones only spout with a big swell and high tide. Check the forecast, go and see them, then eat in Llames or Garaña. If the day turns wet, see our ideas for what to do in Llanes when it rains.
